Reflections & Hope

Posted over 4 years ago by Mary Cruz Silvia

Hello Friends,

Like many of you, I recently received my COVID-19 vaccine.

I never thought I would be emotional while getting a vaccine. I almost felt silly sitting there getting "thanked for my service" but as I looked around I could see the same feeling come across others' faces. It was kind of silent and I knew we were all reflecting on this past year.

We have all been through so much.

So many lives lost.

Feeling like our voices weren't being heard.

Constantly concerned for the health and safety of our families, friends, and community.

Watching a division of people, instead of unity.

But we found comfort in each other. Helped and held each other up when we were down.

To those of you who worked over the holidays and rang in the new year with beeps and dings of the unit, thank you. We all know the feeling of leaving our loved ones at home during these special times to be with those who couldn't make it home to their own families.

As I quietly enjoyed the holidays and rang in the new year with my sleepy child on my lap, I felt hope. The year of the nurse was a trying one for us all. However, to me, every year is the year of the nurse and This is still Our Moment. The world has seen us, and continues to watch. So let's continue to show them what we are made of.

Here's to a new year full of endless possibilities.. I'm All In.
